Two retired MPs turn out to have had an affair in the 1980s. A still active politician (and MP) turns out to have ordered the murder of ten people in the 1970s. Which of these stories is news?

Why ask? Even in the Daily Telegraph gave a quarter of page eight to Gerry Adams; and almost all of page 3, plus a big chunk on the front, to John Major and Edwina Currie.

I suppose this shows what the British public thought of Gerry Adams all along.

Yeah, but what is one supposed to think about Gerry Adams or the rest of that lot over on the Haemorrhoid Ale? Few of the actors encourage anything other than a facile dismissal as more-or-less reformed gangsters, for whom a full and lasting peace would be akin to a major demotion.

    Where are the good guys?
