No, it’s ghastly and very hard on the eyes.

That’s 50% of your readership complaining!

Just wait till I tell Rupert.

Pink on white! It’s so… so…. well. Well, Babs Cartland would understand.

Of all the things I did that might make me blind, I never thought it’d be blogging that finally detached the retinas.

Lovely is too small a word. Very courageous.

All right, come clean – it’s a Feng Shui attack, isn’t it?

  4. rupert says:

I tried putting FONT COLOR tags in to switch the text to a nice aggressive colour that would hit at the Feng Shui underbelly of the rendering engine, but the parser just swallows them.

    Pah.

    Nyaaaaah!
I’ve just noticed there’s pink on black in here. Special, tastefully darkened pink. I think I’m ready for some serious negotiations now.

  6. Louise says:

Well that’s buggered my ancient browser.

The front page now looks like this –

    found
    poetry
    “In
    ced-3
    mutants,
    the
    undead
    sister
    of
    the
    rectal
    epithelial
    cell
    usurps
    its
    sister’s
    position
    and
    performs
    its
    functions.”

It’s a big one-word width column with a huge wide column of pure black next to it all the way down.

Repeat after me ‘If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.’

Pah – men! Always fiddling with things!

This is fascinating: I seem to have stumbled on a Bush doctrine of browser sniffing. “We think Louise is ready for a browser upgrade. The democratic forces of Louise are yearning for a browser upgrade. We are prepared to lend assistance to the forces of democracy” and similar Perles of wisdom.

Actually, I am interested, because I only put the black bit in to see which box the little golden dateline was inside. Then I decided it looked all right. But it has been there, though white, all along. So why didn’t it screw your browser up before?

Oh yes. hmmm. I did give that div a “Width:65%”, which is what seems to have driven your browser crazy. I’ll take that out.

But what is the ancient browser, manufacturing its own little weapons of mass destruction, that you are using?

It never looked right in Netscape 4.78 — the headers tended to oiverlap the text in antisocial ways. In Mozilla all that works correctly, but I just don’t like white backgrounds — I find them tiring. My Windows backgrounds are usually set to either a very pale yellow or accountant book-color green (which, I mean, accountants’ books are that color because it’s easier on the eyes).

Maybe more less sleep and try again?

    Dear argh,
please to remember that nothing looks right in Netscape 4.78. And I have just remembered that I haven’t fixed whatever was driving Louise crazy. I’ll do so when I run out of worm.

  10. andrew says:

Or you could always upgrade to Lynx. I just checked. It’s perfectly legible there. See:

Lynx, pah! What we really need is a Web that works on the TRS-80 Model III.

Sorry I have IE 5 and a dial up connection which makes downloading a new one not an attractive prospect.

Fraid it’s still a huge black column.

    Spoils your deathless prose!
