small spam tweak

It occurs to me that there is one very simple adjustment could be made to any spam filter: if a message contains “u” and “ur” as separate words, it’s not from anyone I know or want to know. How to tell Spamassassin this?

  1. You wouldn’t do it with SA. You’d do it with Procmail before hand. I’m guessing you have procmail set up to send all your mail to SA. You need to edit your .procmailrc file and put in a recipe before the SA one. Google “procmail recipes”.

procmail is great for imap – I use it to sort mailing lists on the server

  2. rupert says:

    is u non-u?

    R

  3. Justin Mason says:

this SA rule would do it:

    body CONTAINS_UR /\bur?\b/

  4. acb says:

Thanks very much. I’ll shove that in the appropriate file.

  5. Louise says:

And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from [Mark Steyn] of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

  6. I’d have lost a conversation today about William Steig’s classic C D B.

    “I M A U-M B-N,” a boy patiently explains to his attentive dog. “U R N N-M-L.”
