So far as I can tell, it&#8217;s impossible to listen to the <span class=\"caps\">BBC <\/span>at the moment without downloading RealPlayer One, which has the most obnoxious licence agreement I have ever signed up to.<\/p>\n\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nIt is far worse than the things that Microsoft gets called on. Essentially, you hand over your entire computer to these bastards, who are enabled to contact realplayer with any information they like, and download anything they feel like.<\/p>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s all of a piece with the notorious difficulty of findiing the free edition on their web site and their never-ending efforts to upsell you to useless, gimmicky subscription crap. At least it is now possible to stop the program grabbing all the file associations it can think of.<\/p>\n\n<p>But I have to admit the streaming quality is fantastic. It&#8217;s wonderful to be able to listen to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/radio3\/world\/latejunction.shtml\">Late Junction<\/a> while I&#8217;m still awake.<\/p>\n\n<p>Why doesn&#8217;t the Beeb use something free-er and more open? <span class=\"caps\">DRM,<\/span> I guess. The lawyers haven&#8217;t yet discovered <a href=\"http:\/\/www.highcriteria.com\/productfr.htm#prod_TR\">total recorder<\/a>, which lets you save any real audio stream.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>may be this, or it may be realplayer&#8217;s licence agreement.
