North <\/a>just pointed me at a long, but incisive piece by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spectator.co.uk\/article.php3?table=old&amp;section=back&amp;issue=2002-12-14&amp;id=2606\" title=\"Geoffrey Wheatcroft's long and brilliant Spec piece\">Geoffrey Wheatcroft <\/a>in the <em>Spectator<\/em>. The historical point of the argument was to show how many Jews had been anti-Zionist in the early years of the project, and how very far from self-evident the project of a Jewish nation-state once seemed. The polemical bite came from his dissection of the idea that anti-Zionism, and specifically opposition to the policies of the present Israeli government, is itself a form of anti-Semitism.<\/p>\n\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThe final sting in his argument comes in the following passage: <blockquote cite=\"http:\/\/www.spectator.co.uk\/article.php3?table=old&amp;section=back&amp;issue=2002-12-14&amp;id=2606\">&#8220;There is one final point, never mentioned but central.
