{"id":407,"date":"2008-04-19T10:01:52","date_gmt":"2008-04-19T14:01:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thewormbook.com\/hlog\/?p=407"},"modified":"2008-04-19T10:01:52","modified_gmt":"2008-04-19T14:01:52","slug":"students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thewormbook.com\/hlog\/?p=407","title":{"rendered":"Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The use of &#8220;Students&#8221; in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesonline.co.uk\/tol\/news\/uk\/crime\/article3760877.ece\">the following story<\/a> seemed to me to make an important point about higher education today:<\/p>\n\n<blockquote><p>Sion Hardy, 24, a town planning student at Liverpool University, had been enjoying a night out at a club in the city centre. As he was leaving in the early hours he bumped into Stephen Lunne, a childhood friend, and another man who had earlier been involved in a violent confrontation with other students. It was the latest skirmish in a long-running feud.<br \/>\nTania Griffiths, <span class=\"caps\">QC, <\/span>for the prosecution, told the jury that as the men were making their way home through an underpass close to the nightclub they were set upon by four students intent on revenge for an earlier incident in the club.<br \/>\nMr Hardy fought valiantly to defend himself but was dealt such a severe blow, possibly a kick, to the base of the skull that he collapsed and died of a brain haemorrhage.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<p>The alleged assailants were studying &#8220;Sports Science&#8221;.
