{"id":1063,"date":"2006-12-14T11:11:44","date_gmt":"2006-12-14T15:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thewormbook.com\/hlog\/?p=1063"},"modified":"2006-12-14T11:11:44","modified_gmt":"2006-12-14T15:11:44","slug":"oh-fjuckby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thewormbook.com\/hlog\/?p=1063","title":{"rendered":"Oh Fjuckby!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A wholly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.svd.se\/dynamiskt\/inrikes\/did_14263712.asp\">glorious story<\/a> in this morning&#8217;s <em>Svenska Dagbladet.<\/em> Eleven villagers from the hitherto unremarked settlement of <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/?ie=UTF8&amp;om=1&amp;z=14&amp;ll=59.972367%2C17.591686&amp;spn=0.036637%2C0.038538\">Fjuckby, north of Uppsala<\/a>, have written to the government petitioning for it to change its name to something less reminiscent of &#8220;sex-related activities between humans and even animals&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p>The journalist wonders what will happen if they succeed: what about the inhabitants of &#8220;B&ouml;gholmen&#8221; (Bugger&#8217;s Island), &#8220;Brittas H&aring;l&#8221; (Britta&#8217;s Hole) and &#8220;Sn&aring;lkuk&#8221; (Stingy Cock). Can&#8217;t they, too, complain that their names provoke &#8220;mirth, derision, and ridicule&#8221; among strangers, as the eleven upright men of Fjuckby have done?<\/p>\n\n<p>What is remarkable, of course, is that the story shows the spread of English, at least a sort of English, into the remoter recesses of the Swedish countryside.<br \/>\n(Nyaaah &#8212; he said &#8220;countryside&#8221;)<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A wholly glorious story in this morning&#8217;s Svenska Dagbladet.
