Ice Hockey!
Sunday February 26, 2006; part of: Blather

"Bach! Fuck, yeah yeah yeah" as the philosopher said. At 12.55 GMT, the BBC is showing live coverage of the Olympic ice hockey final. Even better, it stars Sweden and Finland. In each country, they will be preparing in their different traditional manners, the Swedes settling down with herring and six packs of beer, the Finns with their six packs of Vodka ...

Sweden won, 3-2.

Wimp. Will you trash someone's Nokia if the Finns win?

In the end, Sweden won 3-2 after I switched to Armagnac. Cold tea was never going to win this match.

I like the huge comments box. Complaints to the usual address

I'll bet it wasn't hors d'age, though.

You channelling HST again?

For your information, the hasidic reggae artiste is one Matisyahu and there are some bonkers videos floating around the net of him giving it plenty in gigs.

I don't think one small glass of Armagnac would be enough for HST to clean his teeth with, thanks. But ice hockey is almost the only team sport I love watching. You can't often see what's happening with the puck, any more than you can watch the ball with cricket -- perhaps it's an attraction of football that the ball is always clearly visible -- but the movement of the players is so fast and graceful, while their courage is remarkable.

Textile formatting works here. Double hyphens are automatically converted to en dashes, quotes are automatically smartened. You can put dashes and asterisks around text to make italics bold and other silly effects easily.
  • Text wrapped in Asterisks which * will be bold. The asterisks must touch each end of the bold text. There must a space before the first and after the last.
  • Text wrapped in underscores - _ - will be italicised. The underscores must touch each end of the italics. There must a space before the first and after the last.
  • Paragraphs starting bq. will be block quoted. There must be no space before the "b" and one space after the full stop.
  • A hyperlink is made by wrapping the link text in double quotes, followed immediately by a colon, then the URL. If there is a question mark in the URL, wrap the whole lot in square brackets.
  • I use two classes to mark up text that deserves it. sane text looks like this. loony text looks like that. The syntax for those is %(sane)[space] sane text %; loony is left as an exercise to the reader.
